The Kaishan KG520 is a heavy-duty, diesel-powered split-type DTH drilling rig designed for large-diameter drilling in the most challenging surface mining and quarrying environments. Representing a significant step up in capability, the KG520 is engineered to handle larger holes and deeper benches while maintaining the legendary reliability that Kaishan Group, the world’s third-largest compressor manufacturer, is known for globally. One of the most critical upgrades in the KG520 is the transition to a motor-driven roller chain feed system. Unlike standard cylinder feeds, the motor-chain configuration provides more consistent lifting and feeding force throughout the entire 4150mm stroke. This setup significantly increases the rig’s reliability during deep-hole drilling (Φ105-152mm) and reduces the maintenance requirements typically associated with high-cycle hydraulic cylinders.

Terrain adaptability is another hallmark of the KG520. With a ground clearance of 440mm—nearly double that of smaller models—this rig can traverse over significant rubble and obstacles without damage to its undercarriage. The folding frame track system, powered by high-torque motors, enables the 6500KG machine to travel at up to 4km/h and conquer grades of 30°, making it one of the most mobile rigs in its weight class.

The drilling power of the KG520 is centered around a high-performance Yuchai YC4DK100-T304 engine delivering 73.5KW. This power drives a rotary system capable of 4000N·m torque and speeds up to 100rpm. Combined with the 4150mm feed stroke, which accommodates longer drill rods (3m), the KG520 minimizes rod-changing downtime and maximizes “bit-on-bottom” time for superior daily footage.

For structural longevity, we have thickened the housing and reinforced the boom and beam assemblies. The rig also features an enlarged dust collection interface and a robust ±10° track leveling system to ensure accurate hole alignment on uneven benches. The maximum horizontal reach is extended to 3500mm, providing a larger drilling envelope for specialized applications like face drilling and slope reinforcement.

Shaanxi Kaishan recommends pairing the KG520 with high-pressure portable screw compressors such as the KSCY310/22 or LGCY19/21 series. These units provide the 15-22m³/min of air volume necessary to effectively flush larger Φ105-152mm holes and drive high-impact 4″ or 5″ DTH hammers. Since its founding in 1956, Kaishan has optimized these rig-compressor pairings to deliver the lowest cost-per-meter in the industry.
